Staenis signs the Green Deal on Circular Building
By Staenis | 22/02/2019
Together with 230 other participating public and private organizations, Staenis is launching the Green Deal Circular Building on February 22. With this, we demonstrate our climate commitment, not only in words, but also in concrete action!
More than 60% of our CO2 emissions are related to the materials we use. The circular economy offers solutions to reduce that impact. For the construction sector, this means reuse and maximum high-quality recycling of building materials, a focus on adaptable construction, optimal use of space, and extending the lifespan of buildings and their materials, ...
In order to have a circular economy in Flanders by 2050, in which material cycles are closed, we need different products, services, and revenue models. Close cooperation between companies, governments, knowledge institutions, and citizens can achieve this. That is why Flemish Minister of Environment, Nature and Agriculture Koen Van den Heuvel, together with Circular Flanders, the Flemish Construction Confederation (VCB), and OVAM, is launching this Green Deal Circular Building.
Staenis is committed to this innovative learning network to share practical experiences with other construction companies, building material manufacturers, local and regional governments, private clients, researchers, and other organizations. Until 2023, we will set up experiments together, test the circular principles in practice, and identify bottlenecks. A great lever for the circular economy in Flanders. Within this Green Deal, a multidisciplinary research group – Proeftuin Circulair Bouwen – will also work on the levers that can eliminate these bottlenecks.
